Serendipity: "the apparent aptitude for making fortunate discoveries accidentally" - so says the Webster's New World Dictionary (OK, mine dates back to 1961, but it still works).
"Fortunate discoveries" is how I view so many of the images that I take. Once I put the camera lens in front of my eye, I began viewing the world with a new sense of wonder. And, even when the camera is not in my hand, I continue to look for those gems that startle, entice, and enthrall me. I find the extra-ordinary hidden in plain sight amidst the mundane: the interplay of light and shadow, the miraculous transformation by early morning or late evening light of "daytime-drab" objects.
Photography began, for me, as a hobby, the definition of which is "an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation...". (This time I went high tech and used dictionary.com.) Playing with my camera (and it IS play) has given me both, especially pleasure. And, now there is the added component of pleasing an audience, or of capturing and conveying my emotion at the moment I click the shutter with the hope that someone will recognize what I felt, or simply be moved by my image.
Recently, someone said of one of my images that it was so very peaceful - she didn't know I'd entitled it "Serenity". It doesn't get much better than that!
